Weekend of Remembrance

This year has been one of loss.  So many of the icons of Cat Blogosphere have gone to the Rainbow Bridge.  Mother Earth has shaken us all up with catastrophic earthquakes, tsunamis, wildfires and tornadoes which caused even more losses worldwide, of humans and animals.  We are joining in on a Weekend of Remembrance with Three Tabby Cats in Vienna  and Momo at Floof and Fur.

For those in harm's way by Zoolatry.

We would like to remember some of the cats who have come before in our home...Clarence was a stray who wandered into our yard and hearts, skinny, hungry and matted.  He only was with us for 18 months when he passed of cardiomyopathy in 2004 but he took a large part of our hearts with him.

Clarence in better days.

Nick lived outside for most of his short life, a sweet but shy boy.  When he lost weight, we brought him inside only to discover he had an intestinal tumor which took his life at age 6 in 2006.  He loved being loved and cuddled right to the end.

Nick on the left with Big Guy.

Dear Manny left us very suddenly in 2007 when he was only two of a blocked urethra.  Such sweet memories of him - he loved to play with the laser toy and that was the only time he ever growled  - he was very possessive of  his favorite toy.  He loved to eat and was so excited he would run in circles instead of eating when  Mom put the food plate down.

Manny

Mom lost many of the ferals who never came inside but lived in our outdoor shelter in the yard - Big Guy our calm peace keeping head male cowcat, sweet Momcat who probably was the mother to most of them until her spaying in her later years, and last but not least, little black Bob and Leroy who both disappeared suddenly at age 6 months.

We love them and miss them still but know we will see them again one day.  Here is a lovely poem in memory of all the wonderful animals who have passed from our lives and yours.  Thank you for sharing a short time with us on Earth.

I Will Always Remember

I will always remember
the olive-eyed tabby who
taught me that not all
relationships are meant to
last a lifetime.  Sometimes
just an hour is enough to
touch your heart.

Gardening on Thursday

Pop bought some broccoli plants to put in our garden and left them in the bathtub overnight- this is what they looked like the next morning!!!!!  Guess who the nibbler was....Tabitha!  She is not admitting anything at this point ...but we have witnesses!!!

Tabitha looking very guilty.

Our yard is just lovely with color - pink and white azaleas, dogwoods and our irises are coming up. Pop did plant lettuces, herbs and some new broccoli (ahemm...., Tabitha clearing her throat)) plants too. He is putting in potatoes and more veggies later this week.

Lettuces under the cover.

Chives, thyme and broccoli
Hope you enjoyed the garden tour today - we are not officially part of the Thursday Garden Club but will post now and then on how things are going!

Looks like we have been invited to join in on the Thursday Society of Feline Gardeners hosted by Jonsie.  Even tho we can't go outside we can report on the garden thru our windows!!!  Please do visit the other gardens on the main page here.

On another note - we had a scary night again with all the storms that devastated AL and GA passing over us in the early morning hours.  Mom stayed up with us and kept an eye on the TV and computer radar.  Luckily our beloved mountains broke it all up and all we got was thunder and rain.  We are sending our prayers to all who suffered in the tornadoes last night.

Wild Wednesday

Only in his cat tree.
We will be having some wild and stormy weather today along with the eastern part of the country.  Another day of hiding from the big booms and hoping we will be safe from the winds.  We will be sending happy thoughts to all of you in the stormy areas today - be safe.

Tortie Tuesday - In Memory of Sweet Praline

The blog world lost a very special friend when Sweet Praline left her mom Paula and us all on April 25, 2011.  Tortie Tuesday will never be the same.  Sweet dreams dear one.

A Bridge Called Love

It takes us back to brighter years,
to happier sunlit days
and to precious moments
that will be with us always.
And these fond recollections
are treasured in the heart
to bring us always close to those
from whom we had to part.
There is a bridge of memories
from earth to Heaven above...
It keeps our dear ones near us
It's the bridge that we call love.

Happy Easter!

Wishing you all a very blessed beautiful Easter.  We hope you get lots of goodies in your basket.  By the way...Yoko wants to know if you have seen her basket...she is subbing for the Easter Bunny and is getting all spruced up for the occasion!

Thank you for all your concern over our wild weather last week.  Mom has been laid low with a sinus infection after her stomach virus.  Hope to be all better soon.

We Are OK!

Yoko in her box.

Our pal Kim from Fuzzy Tales emailed to see if we are alright.  We just wanted to put up a quick post to let everyone know that we are OK!  Mom and Pop have been real busy  and then we had bad storms with flooding in our area and tornadoes in the eastern part of North Carolina over the weekend but none near us.  Mom came down with a stomach virus and is just resting up from that.  We will be back to blogging later this week.  Thanks for your concern. See ya later..

For more coverage of the tornadoes in NC visit the Raleigh news story here.  Please send extra prayers for those who lost family and homes during the tornado outbreak in NC, VA and SC over the weekend - 22  people in NC lost their lives.  A very scary sad weekend.

Shabby Chic Decorating - the Cat version

Today has been designated Shabby Chic Day! Mom has been a big fan of Shabby Chic decorating for many years - even before us. She believes in reusing and recycling but we have taught her a bunch more things to bring her up to the higher levels of Shabby Chic for Cats.

How many cats can you find on the bed?

Tip number one - cover all furniture with soft fluffy fleece. We love to lay on soft fabric -the thicker the better. This gives a casual comfy look to the home.

Darby

Tip number two - instead of putting it away, pile your clean laundry on the top of the dresser for a few days so we can snuggle on it and make it cat presentable.

Joey and Ivy

Tip number three - scatter various size pet beds around the house for us to nap in. Naps are very important!!!

Mamacita, Rosa and Yoko

Tip number four - for us older cats, place steps next to sofas, chairs and beds so we can walk up easily. And do leave scratching boards out in plenty of places for us to use.

Two Spot and Sam

Tip number five - window coverings should be kept to a minimum to allow lots of sunlight indoors and for our viewing pleasure.

Lily

Tip number six - boxes are a must, in all shapes and sizes placed in nooks and crannies. One can never have too many boxes!

The whitsters (and Woody)

Tip number seven - for those of you lucky enough to have a screen porch, plenty of shelves at different heights make great spots for us to lounge, catch some rays and snoopervise.

There you have it - the essentials of Shabby Chic decorating straight from the experts!  How do you help decorate your house?

P.S. Mom posted this last week and quickly took it off realizing it was the wrong week!  Just in case some of you saw it briefly in your reader!!!

Happy Birthday to Kim!

Our friend Kim from Fuzzy Tales and Musings on a Small Life is celebrating her birthday today - please go by her personal blog today and visit her with birthday wishes.

She is always the first to leave a comment on our blogs to help celebrate or to share our sorrow.  We want to thank her for her kindness and thoughtfulness to all of us and to all creatures.  Happy Birthday Kim!

Friends Friday - Full Moon Farm

As you may already know April is Prevent Cruelty to Animals Month sponsored by ASPCA.  We are supporting them by doing posts about animals in need and by wearing orange to show our support!

Today we are featuring some special friends of ours from Full Moon Farm in Black Mountain, NC.  This wonderful place rescues and provides a forever home for abandoned and abused wolfdogs - dogs that have been bred with wolves.  There are just a few shelters in the US that are set up to take them and this is one of the best.

Pearl is the official greeter and lives there along with several other cats.

Banjo likes to sit on the roof of his house.

They have been having a hard time in this lately in this down economy and could use some extra help and support.  The have 17 acres of private wooded land to house all the beautiful wolfdogs.  They are a 501 (c)3 wolfdog rescue and sanctuary founded in 2002. In the past 8 years they have rescued over 400 wolfdogs and evaluated or transported over 175, as they would have been euthanized.

Once a month they host a Howl-in where folks can tour the grounds and enjoy a potluck supper next to a roaring fire pit.  Mom went to this and met the great bunch of people who run the sanctuary and of course the wolfdogs.  If you would like to read more about them visit Mom's other blog and read her post.  Please do check out Full Moon Farm's website and Facebook page.

Beautiful Belle.
Pass this on, join their Facebook page, donate  - just help out in any way you can!  Go orange for April!

Two Takers fur Tabby Tuesday

Mom here today to tell you about our two tabbies Tabitha and Woody.  Both of them loved to be licked and loved by other cats but they are both takers not givers.  They haven't quite figured that one out.  Here Tabitha spots Woody and is moving in for a bit of loving while Woody is thinking the same.

She tries rubbing up against Woody to warm him up.

Woody is hoping she will do the same for him and sits patiently waiting for his lovin'

This can go on for a long while  with both of them trying to get the other to groom.. Lots of head butts, rubbin', purring and don't I look cute looks but to no avail.  They just haven't figured out they gotta give in order to get.

Tabitha is really truing hard to get some while Woody is hoping by sitting real quiet Tabitha will lavish some  on him!.

Finally she gives up and yawns.  Time for a nap. Poor Woody looks sooo disappointed.  Who are the givers and takers in your house?
