In Memory...

This has been a sad week for Mom and Pop. They haven't much felt like blogging. After Grandmom passed we found out this week that Mom's best friend who was like her sister died unexpectedly of heart issues. Kathy was only 59 and left two young daughters behind.

We don't live near Kathy's family but she did come to visit us and loved critters. She met Chica and Yoko in Florida when she visited us there. They have three cats in their home who will miss Kathy for sure.

Mom and Kathy went to college together and had lots of fun double dating. They could wear each other's clothes and would always swap them. Kathy had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh..she had a twinkle in he eye that was contagious! Kathy was an only child like Mom so they became real close.

When Mom got her first job in Connecticut after college she lived in Kathy's family's beach house until she found a place to live. Kathy was living in Boston and working too. Mom was close to Kathy's mom Ellie who would come by the beach house and hang out with Mom. Mom's parents loved Kathy like their own too and loved to have her come by.

Kathy got married and moved to Maine and had two little girls. Mom had moved to Florida with Pop so they kept in touch with notes, cards and phones calls..lots of phone calls. Kathy was who Mom would call whenever there was something new and exciting or a problem she needed help with. Kathy was like her big sister.

We have been helping our Mom by sitting on her lap with her and purring for her. Mom is thinking of making a blog to honor her friend Kathy and to let everyone tell their stories about her for her daughters to have to remember her by.

Mom will be back to blogging next week as usual. Thanks to all of you who stopped by this week and offered condolences for Grandmom. We really appreciate everyone! See ya next week.

Sad News....

Our Pop's mom, our Grandmom, passed away this past Sunday. She was almost 90 and had been in a nursing home for the past number of years. The photo above was from her 50th Wedding Anniversary in the late 1980's.

Since we were her only grand kids from our Mom and Pop we were called her grandkitties. This would make her smile! Our oldest kitties Chica and Yoko know Grandmom well...they used to sneak in her room when she visited us and pull all the tissues out of her tissue box and shred them. She couldn't figure out how that happened and never suspected us cats! Heehee

Lou Ellen was born in Texas and lived there her whole life, raising three boys. She was a tough spunky lady, honest, outspoken and with a hearty laugh! She always dressed beautifully, everything color coordinated. In later years, she and Grandpop got to travel a lot overseas and all over. Mom and Pop took them lots of places when they came to visit us.

Grandmom volunteered at the local hospital in Texas with Grandpop. Grandpop Sam passed first about ten years ago.

We will miss her and hope that she is with Grandpop at the Bridge, having fun with all the older folks - her family and friends who have already gone.

Bye Grandmom!

Feeding Frenzy

Whenever Mom has a bagel with butter and cream cheese on it for breakfast she is surrounded by us cats begging for a bite. She usually sits in the living room and tries to watch the news on TV but...

We won't leave her alone, begging, tapping with our paws..until she gives us a delicious bit of cream cheese on the tip of her finger to lick off. The usual crew is Minnie, Joey, Ivy, Yoko and Chica. The elder kitties, Chica and Yoko, get first lick of course. For some reason little Sweepea slept through it all this morning!

Excuse the fuzzy blurry pictures..Mom was trying to take photos one handed! Hope you enjoyed our feeding frenzy! For more kitty posts join in with Gattina for Cats on Tuesday!

Cookie Monster!

The word for today in Photo Hunt is HALF. Since Minnie has only half of her top front teeth..she is our entry.

I'm Minnie and I have a sweet tooth! You can see it in this picture..I have only one fang left! Mom calls me the cookie monster..

I talk and talk and follow her around until she gives me a treat. After I eat , I must have a cookie!

Yumm, these Temptations are great!

Did I get them all Mom? Are there any more?

Now I will go take a nap..sorry about having my eyes closed...the flashy box makes them squint and becuz I am black nothing comes out if she doesn't use the flashy box.

Winner!

Thanks to all of you for helping Yoko celebrate her 17th Gotcha Day over the weekend! We loved all the extra goodies some of you brought with you. Some kitties even brought voles...that was fun and Yoko is busy sleeping it all off....so are the rest of the Wildcat Woods gang!

The winner of the book drawing (via Random.org) was Lucy from Lucy's Cat Lounge! She gets a copy of the New Natural Cat book that helped our Mom save Yoko when she was a tiny kitten! Congrats Lucy!

Oh yeah..before we forget..on goat TV yesterday a momma goat had a baby right in front of us in our neighbor's pasture! This is the second one we saw like this! Pretty cool and on Mother's Day too.

We will be by to visit you all and thank you for your gifts and attendance at our party! Happy Monday!

P.S. Our cat blog posts are not showing up in Google Reader...does anyone know how to fix this? Some of our followers can't tell if we are doing new posts. Thanks!

Happy Mother's Day and Yoko's 17th Gotcha Day!

We are celebrating Yoko for the entire weekend! Sorry about the fuzzy old photo of her...Mom took a picture of an old picture...but isn't she cute?

In 1993, Pop decided to surprise Mom with a puppy on Mother's Day, May 9 so he took her to the shelter the day before to pick out a puppy. No puppies! Not a one. So Pop was talking to the lady cleaning cages and she handed him a tiny tabby kitten barely 6-7 weeks old. He was smitten! That kitten was Yoko...the rest is history.

Yoko, named for her very distinctive voice, still had her kitten blue eyes when we took her home. She was very curious and lively. We kept her in the bedroom since Chica was not used to other cats. Yoko had something wrong with her..she could not keep any food in her - she either had the runs or threw it up. Mom took her to the vet but they couldn't find anything wrong and told Mom to stop changing foods on her. Mom didn't like that so she found a recipe in Anitra Frazier's book the New Natural Cat for cat mother's milk substitute and fed Yoko that. It worked - she kept it down.

Mom took her to another vet and they found a parasite in her tummy that was causing her to be sick. With the right medication, she was all better. I bet Yoko was glad Mom looked up stuff in her books!

Yoko is a very sweet kitty who loves cream cheese, naps and hidy spots way up high. You never knew where you would find her - on the refrigerator, on the closet shelf or on top of the kitchen cabinets! Now she can't quite get up that high. She still likes to nap in the strangest spots!

She has slowed down a lot, has lost most of her teeth and does like to sleep, well, alot! We love her very much and she is still the best Mother's Day gift Mom could have ever gotten!

Yoko will be pampered all weekend with lots of cream cheese, a special salmon dinner and all the loving she could want! In honor of Yoko, Mom will be giving away a copy of the New Natural Cat book to a lucky winner. So... if you don't already have a copy or would like one, be sure to mention that in your comments! (Canadian bloggers are included but sorry, we can't afford to post overseas.)

We have cake and cupcakes for the beans and treats, tuna flakes and nip for the cats. Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Mother's Day to all the great mother's out there - two-legged and four-legged. We are joining in on Photo Hunt (the word today is MOTHER), Weekend Cat Blogging and Camera Critters and Pet Pride too so be sure to go by and see more fun posts!

Wendy was sweet enough to feature Yoko on her Mother's Day post for the Lol Spot - check it out and thanks Wendy!

Thankful Thursday

We are thankful that it is warm out now and the windows can be open! We love to listen to the birds, goats and critters outdoors...and smell the fresh air! We can even leave them open all night too..that is the best time to snoopervise.

You can see some of Pop's garden through the windows! Mom's got double screens in the windows cuz she thinks we will break out and run away! Mom's, huh!
Please come back this weekend to celebrate Yoko's 17th Gotcha Day - a two day party......cuz Mom got her for Mother's Day as a surprise but picked her out the day before!

Toesie Tuesday

Darby sleeps in the most convoluted positions. I don't know how she is able to breathe sometimes. And she does snore with whistles and and groans - most of the time when she is sleeping with her head buried!

Aren't those toes cute? For more cat stories visit Cats on Tuesday.
Mom wants to apologize for not visiting everyone as often...she is working, taking care of us, managing her booth at the antique mall and working in the yard with Pop in the garden...not much time to work on the puter! She will try to come by once a week so don't give up on her.
