Happy New Year!

To celebrate the ending of one decade and the beginning of new one, we are posting baby photos of the "kids". Most of our cats were found, rescued or adopted at about 6 months or older so we don't have many kitten photos.

Darby age 4-5 months.

This New Year's Eve is also a "blue moon" the second full moon in the same month. Here's some interesting astrological info from an online article....

Astrologically the energy of the full moon works to integrate and harmonize the contradictions in the self and others. During a full moon, the seeds sown at the last new moon are ready to be harvested and utilized. Traditionally, the full moon is seen as a time for meditation and particularly for personal issues and global concerns.

During the blue moon this vibration is said to be three-fold. In some cultures the second full moon was considered a very holy and auspicious day. A time when the veil between heaven and earth is thin and the ability to communicate with the gods and goddess is very powerful. It is considered a very spiritually significant time for prayer and meditation going back thousands of years.

Wishing you all another year of friendship, health, prosperity and love. We have enjoyed getting to know you all! Happy New Year!!!!!

Christmas Ice Storm

Sorry we haven't been visiting you all but we got hit with an ice storm on Christmas eve just a week after the 14" snow storm! This was not expected - we were supposed to get rain or a little freezing rain! It knocked power off for days for all of us in our town and in the high mountains.

Mom made nice snuggle spots for all of us with lots of fleece blankets over us to keep us warm. We don't have a wood stove or any back-up heat for times like this.

These show the damage to the roads going out of our house in both directions! The tree crews had to come and cut all the downed trees before the power crews could even reach us.

It was hard on the older cats and they were showing signs of stress - runny eyes and shivering even with all our blankets. It got down to 38 degrees in the house so the beans went out and got a generator. Boy were we happy to have heat back. We expect more snow this week but this time we are prepared!

Happy Holidays!

It's Christmas Eve and a Thursday - very appropriate. We are thankful that we got thru the snow storm in one piece. It will definitely be a holiday to remember....

We were snowed in for three days but at least had electric power, so many didn't....our tree was up but all our decorations were snowed in our storage unit the next town over...after calling them for days we decided to go ahead and do the tree anyway. Finding lights was a problem Mom didn't anticipate. All the stores were completely sold out. We did find some LED lights at Home Depot. A very cold icy light but they did the trick.

To decorate we used dried flowers, candy canes, beads from the Dollar store, Pop's cookie cutters with red ribbon, and black and white photos printed wallet size and backed with card stock.

Mamacita checking out the gifts under the tree.

The finished tree - not bad!

Have a safe and warm Christmas and thank you all for sharing your adventures with us all year. We have met so many kind people and critters. Mom will be by to visit after the weekend is over - she has to work until Sunday.

Snowed In! (Photo Hunt - Fast)

We are all snowed in here in Western NC. This is what our driveway looked like when the storm started!
We are playing Photo Hunt today and the word is fast - this snow came down fast and accumulated fast!

Here is me Tabitha checking out the snow stuff Mom dragged in on her feet. Our shelter is nice and snug.

I don't think I like this cold white stuff!

It snowed all through the night - big wet flakes.

And this is what it looked like this morning! We got at least a foot of snow, maybe more!

Photo Hunt - Undesirable

We are joining in on the Photo Hunt for today and the theme is Undesirable. I hate wearing clothes! I am too dignified to wear these things that Mom tries to put on me. And another thing...that flashy box is not my favorite either!

Ok...here is one good pose but that is it for today! Happy Holidays and Happy Caturday too!

Cats on Tuesday with Yoko.

In my younger days I loved to get up high on things..the higher the better! Here I am on the fridge in our Florida house! The blue feather toy was what I was after - Mom kept it up there so we couldn't get it on our own. That didn't stop me!

I love to look down on everybody. This also gets me out of harm's way from my older sister Chica who always picked on me!

Now that I am 16, I take it easy and don't climb up too much anymore! I pretty much sleep all the time.

A Working Caturday with Al!

It's a fairly warm sunny day and we are all enjoying the rays!

Mom and Pop will be finishing up winterizing our screen cat room over the weekend. Pop hurt his knee this week so Mom will be doing the ladder and stapling the plastic over the screen. They did something new this year - adding panels that can be raised on warm days to let air in. That was a nice idea! Plus we have glass windows that we can see out and watch the birds and goats!

Wow look what they found on the outside screen! Have you ever seen such a big hairy spider? Wonder what kind it is? Anyone know?

Happy Caturday and please stop by Camera Critters for more great animal posts! ALso visit Bozo at Pet Pride for more pet posts.

What is Snowball's Story?

I was one of my feral Momcat Lily's first litter of four - three black kittens and one white - me. I don't know what happened to the other kittens but the nice people who were feeding us all fall moved or something and we were left in the cold with no food. My bean Mom was told by neighbors about a white mom cat and one kitten that were struggling to survive in the winter. She started to put food out for us on her back deck out of the wind and sure enough we found it. We were so hungry that we pushed each other out of the way to get to the bowl first. Boy did we eat!

Momcat Lily that following spring.

The food station on the deck.

Bean Mom made a shelter under the house for us and gave us a spot on the deck to eat that protected us from the cold and nasty weather. I kinda liked living outside there and being the only kitten. Mom Lily took real good care of me but then she got pregnant again even tho bean Mom tried to catch us both to get us neutered. I was kinda left on my own a bit while Mom Lily enjoyed sowing her oats.

I would sit on the Tiki man on the deck and look in the windows watching the other cats inside and talk to them. Bean Mom gave me lots of toys and talked to me a ll the time but I would not let her pet me or come too close.

Next thing you know Momcat Lily had more kittens and I was just an extra! I hung around with the little guys some but they were just babies and I was almost a mancat. When they got older, they looked to me like a father since Mom was busy living her life. She was a great momcat to us as kittens but when it was time to move out she took off and left us to fend for ourselves. Bean Mom took real good care of us too.

We got so used to bean Mom even when she put a cage out on the deck and put our food inside. We accepted it and used it as our food station. One day while we were all in it, she closed the door and caught us all! We howled and fought but we were in.

Lily's second litter of kittens.

She had a great shelter already for us that a friend of hers had made from an insulated shed with windows and electricity and a fenced area outside with access thru a cat door. We were scared at first but eventually got used to it and liked being safe, fed and cared for. Bean Mom got us all neutered too and that is when I started to put on weight - I am a roly poly guy now at at four years old. I guess I used to be so afraid I was not gonna get a meal that now I still eat like a wild cat!

Snowball - me- today! I am a big mancat, aren't I?

Hope you enjoyed my story and will come back to visit us again. For more critters post visit Camera Critters! Show off your pets and visit Pet Pride!
